Fabio Tavares' The Ex-Body

  • The Balance Arts Center 151 West 30th Street, 3rd floor New York, NY 10001 (map)

ABOUT THE SHOW

The Ex-Body is a one man show based on the first three pages of the text “The Hamletmachine” by Heiner Mueller. Conceived and choreographed by Fabio Tavares this show was designed to be a multi-disciplinary show where theatre, performance, and dance clash together on stage to support the deep physical needs of the text and the author's visceral desire to voice the human paradox. A version of it was premiered in 2010 and since then versions of it have been performed in Brazil, Europe, and the US. This piece is a collaboration between Fabio Tavares and sound designer Jack McGuire.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Fabio Tavares is a Brazilian actor, dancer and acrobat who’s been obsessed with the human body in action for as long as he can remember. At the age of 15, Fabio ran away to join the circus in his native Brazil in what turned out to be the beginning of a lifelong career performing and studying movement. After moving to NYC in 1999 Fabio began studying the Alexander Technique, Klein Technique™️ and Zero Balancing more regularly, eventually getting certified in all of three modalities. In addition to creating and performing his own original work, Fabio has also danced, performed and collaborated with many incredible artists over the years. He also worked with the worldly renowned dance company STREB- Extreme Action for 14 years where he served as the Associate Artistic Director for a decade. The demanding, high-impact nature of the STREB choreography led Fabio to an even deeper appreciation of Alexander Technique to keep his spine flexible and his joints somewhat free. Fabio was an adjunct professor at PACE University 2014 - 2017. Fabio’s personal mission is to make AT accessible to all, especially those struggling with physical pain, the LGBT Community and folks in recovery for drugs and alcohol.
